Kuhmo has a long expertise in wood construction. Woodpolis is a city owned wood construction cluster that was established to support the woodworking industry by developing new innovations in the area of wood construction.
Established in 2006, Woodpolis is an expert organisation of the city of Kuhmo promoting timber construction development and maintaining and supporting a learning environment.
In addition to the wood construction expertise in the area, city of Kuhmo is a proud host of annual Chamber music festival that has grown to be an internationally highly respected event. Due to the international attention, Kuhmo has built a strong tourism industry, that focuses on the chamber music and the nature/wildlife tourism. The tourism is highly developed and supported by Wild Taiga organisation.
The city of Kuhmo has been designated as a city of literature of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
